Guardaropa Sostenible con Closet Sustentable

Se cerca la cuarta semana de abril. Esta semana es una celebración de la sostenibilidad en nuestras vidas a través de la concientización sobre el cuidado del planeta (Earth Day - abril 22) y cómo así llevar una vida más sostenible y ética (Fashion Revolution Week). Pienso que es una continuidad a la llegada de la primavera. Que no olvidemos cuan importante es cuidarla y hacer nuestra parte. // The fourth week of April is approaching. This week is a celebration of sustainability in our lives through creating awareness of the ways to care of the planet (Earth Day - April 22) and how to lead a more sustainable and ethical life (Fashion Revolution Week). I think of it like it's a continuity of the arrival of spring. To not forget how important it is to take care of it and do our part.

Así que qué momento más perfecto que compartir unos looks de primavera con Closet Sustenable y así darle una actualización a tu closet a uno más sostenible. // So it seemed like the perfect moment to share some spring looks with Closet Sustenable and also update your closet into a more sustainable one.

Como saben, llevo ya más o menos un año haciendo la transición a un guardarropa sostenible y evitar el seguir comprando y apoyando productos y marcas fast fashion. En vez, me he enfocado en limpiar mi closet, quedarme con piezas que realmente amo y uso. ¿Qué hacer con las demás piezas? Pues salir de ellas de diferentes maneras tanto sostenibles como circulares. // As you know, I've been transitioning to a more sustainable wardrobe for about a year now and avoiding buying and supporting fast fashion products and brands. Instead, I focused on cleaning my closet, keeping pieces that I really love and use. What to do with the other pieces? You can do away with them in different ways both sustainable and circular.

Una de estas maneras es comprar ropa de segunda mano que esté en excelentes condiciones. Es otro método de mantener circularidad en el proceso de compra. ¿Por qué? Porque aún cuando compramos ropa que está hecha de manera sostenible y/o éticamente (e.j. "slow fashion") seguimos sumando al guardarropa, y hay ocasiones que se sigue empleando la excesividad (compras desmedidas). Dado a esto, seguimos necesitando de formas de reusar/upcycle nuestra ropa. // One of these ways is to buy second hand clothes that are in excellent condition. It is another method of maintaining circularity in the purchase process. Why? Because even when we buy clothes that are made in a sustainable manner and / or ethically (e.g. "slow fashion") we keep adding to the wardrobe, and there are occasions that we continue to use excess (needless purchases). Given this, we still need ways to reuse / upcycle our clothes.

Es normal que la ropa no nos guste más o cambiemos de estilo, que no la necesitemos más o que hemos cambiado de talla. Muchas veces la gente toma dos acciones, la deposita en los bins de hay de recogido de ropa o la bota. Cuando la depositan en los bins usualmente ocurre que estas entidades se las llevan a los países que visitan y se las venden, no la donan. Puede que sí existan organizaciones que sí entreguen como donativo pero deben de hacer las verificaciones debidas. Puedes también buscar a través de tus contactos de personas que la necesiten y se puede entregar así directo a quienes necesitan. // It is normal that we don’t like our clothes anymore or change our style, to not need them anymore or that we have changed in size. Many times people take two actions, deposit it in the clothes collection bins or throw them away. When you deposit it in the bins, it usually happens that these entities take them to the countries they visit and sell them, they don’t donate them. Maybe there are organizations that do deliver as a donation but you must do the necessary research. You can also search through your contacts who needs them and can be delivered directly to those who need them.

No confies en quien diga que comer no es de lo mejor de la vida. // Don’t trust anyone that says that eating isn’t the best thing in life. [Traje: Closet Sustentable * Cartera: Vintage * Sandalias: Free People - Vegan Suede]

Cuando se bota se las llevan al vertedero. Por si no lo sabían, el volumen es tan grande de lo que se bota, junto a la contaminación que hacen muchos procesos de manufactura de la industria de la moda, hacen que la industria sea la segunda más contaminante del planeta. Es por esto que seguir botando la ropa no es opción.  // When they are thrown away, they are taken to the landfill. In case you didn’t know, the volume is so big that when they are thrown away, together with the pollution that many manufacturing processes in the fashion industry cause, making it the second most polluting industry on the planet. This is why continuing to throw clothes away is not an option.

Aquí entran opciones como el reciclar/upcycle las piezas, telas o retazos. Otra opción es la compra y venta de ropa de segunda mano. Podemos vender la nuestra a tiendas que se especialicen en ropa vintage y/o de segunda mano. Como también podemos actualizar nuestro closet y estilo con piezas que consigamos en estas tiendas. Localmente hay unas cuantas opciones, pero en el área metro y que pueda conseguir piezas en tallas grandes o plus size son Tropithrift y Closet Sustentable.  // Here options such as recycling / upcycling the pieces, fabrics or scraps come in. Another option is the purchase and sale of second-hand clothes. We can sell ours to stores that specialize in vintage and/or second-hand clothes. As we can also update our closet and style with pieces that we get in these stores. Locally there are a few options, but in the metro area and that carry pieces in plus sizes are Tropithrift and Closet Sustentable.

He tenido la suerte de poder establecer una buena relación colaborativa con Francheska a través de su proyecto Closet Sustentable. Tuve mi pop-up closet sale el año pasado allí. Pude ser parte y poner en práctica la circularidad con la venta, y recientemente, al poder pasar por la tienda un par de veces y comprarme unas piezas hermosas y bien on trend con la temporada de primavera y el resto del año. Al fin y al cabo somos una isla tropical. // I have been very fortunate to have established a good collaborative relationship with Francheska through her project Closet Sustentable. I had my pop-up closet come out last year there. I had the chance to be part and put into practice circularity with the sale, and recently, to be able to go through the store a couple of times and buy some beautiful pieces and very on trend with the spring season and the rest of the year. After all, we are a tropical island.
